Constitution of the Assembly of International Students (AIS),

University of Wisconsin-Madison

Date of Adoption: September 2, 2014

 

Article I – Identity

 

  • The name of this organization is Assembly of International Students (AIS).

  • AIS is a nonprofit organization.

 

Article II – Objectives

 

  • To serve as an international student government and foster community sense among all students on campus.

  • To provide adequate resources and improve general welfare for the international and domestic student body.

  • To raise cultural awareness and contribute to the overall campus diversity and student life.

  • To assist the funding needs of student-based organizations in strengthening their positive involvement in campus community.

 

Article III – Membership and Advisory

 

  • AIS is open to all students or RSOs, with multicultural interests and focus of raising culture or national identity outside of the United States.

  • Faculty or staff members of the university may act as an advisor to the organization. Such advisory position shall be assigned at the discretion of the International Student Services (ISS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

 

Article IV – Officers

 

  • Officer must be an enrolled student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

    • The structure of AIS along with the officer positions are as follows AIS Board Committee

The respective job descriptions of AIS Executive are as follows

  • AIS Executive (7 members)

    • Direct the platform of the organization and maintain a sustainable division of labor within it

    • Held responsible for the carrying out of the organization’s vision and mission

    • Supervise and evaluate the performance of the subdivisions as well as the organization as a whole

    • Maintain responsiveness to issues pertinent to the international student community and strive to find solutions to address them

    • Ensure a positive and constructive relationship with International Student Services (ISS)

  • President

    • ​Leads internal Executive as well as General Member meetings

    • Be the point person and primary representative of the organization

  • Vice President

    • ​Assists President in carrying out his/her responsibilities

    • Be the Person in charge when President is not available

  • Committee of Public Relations & Marketing (3)

    • ​Develop the organization’s social network both internally and externally

    • Sustain healthy relationships with all stakeholders that includes AIS Board Committee, AIS

    • General Membership, and general international student population

    • Maintain a contact information database of AIS General Membership and AIS Board Committee

    • Encourage event collaborations within AIS General Membership

    • Act as the main spokesperson that well represents the organization to outside parties

  • Committee of Communications & Resource (3)

    • ​Establish a system of campus resources, including:

      • ​Academia

      • Career

      • Campus involvement and leadership

      • Miscellaneous

    • Respond to questions or concerns from AIS General Membership and refer them to the appropriate resource, if necessary

    • Manage the information of major student organizations, follow student events and collect feedbacks

    • Monitor ISS website and AIS social network

    • Promote AIS-related or AIS General Membership-related events through weekly newsletters, event flyers, social media, public announcements, etc.

  • Committee of Finance (3)

    • ​Communicate with ISS Finance Advisor and update financial statements

    • Make clear of AIS funding policies for AIS General Memberships and held responsible to limit confusion if necessary

    • Assist AIS General Memberships in applying other on-campus grants: ASM, WUD, etc.

    • All directors are held accountable to discuss funding-related issues and decide on approval of funds for AIS General Memberships

  • Election of Officers

    • ​New officers will be elected through submission of written applications and round of interviews to be administered by the incumbents.

    • Officers will assume office for the period of one year.

  • Recall of Officers

    • ​Officers are subject to recall upon wrongdoings during his/her incumbency.

    • Recall procedures will be initiated at the request of more than 50% of the board.

    • A hearing will be conducted at an internal meeting for the presentation of evidence from all concerned parties.

A 2/3 voting majority at the hearing is necessary to remove an officer.

 

Article V – Decision Making

 

  • Decision-making process can only take place within a quorum of 50% of the board.

  • Decisions can only be agreed upon on a 2/3 majority vote.

 

Article VII – Statement of Non-discrimination

 

  • This organization shall not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, religion, age, marital status, national origin, disability, or veteran status.

  • The above clause is applied but not limited to the purpose of recruitments, memberships, and organizational activities.

 

Article VII – Statement of Compliance with Campus Regulations

 

  • This organization shall comply with all university policies and regulations at local, state and federal levels.
